Stacked tires and the problem of landfills

"AM-Eska" LLC was established in 2014, embarking on tire development starting from July of the same year. As recounted by the company's director, Vahan Gharibyan, the concept of tire recycling emerged after extensive research, recognizing the widespread presence of discarded tires posing environmental hazards.

Tires are primarily gathered from disorganized dumps, vehicle repair shops, and factories. The company's founders noted that these landfills are severely neglected, lacking proper control and management. In Yerevan alone, there are 4 major landfills with 10 more officially registered. Current estimates suggest that approximately 40,000 tons of tires are stockpiled in these sites. Moreover, the city accumulates a minimum of 12-13 tons of tires daily.

As Vahan Gharibyan emphasizes, "Generally, tires should not be disposed of in landfills; instead, they should be properly managed or handed over to licensed companies. Currently, we can only collect and process 4-5 tons."

Within the company's office, a large map displays all designated tire collection points. Approximately 380 collection points are scattered throughout Yerevan. Contracts have been established with various companies, enabling tire supply for a nominal fee ranging from 50 to 100 drams.
